Bright beginners welcome at creative pre-school

Are you bursting with bright ideas, flexible and confident in creating a disciplined and nurturing teaching environment? A pre-school with a strongly creative bent would like to welcome five or six part- and full-time teachers to its team.

With six pre-schools and 700 pupils, Sunshine House International Pre-Schools Hong Kong offers structured classes in the English language.

'These early formative years are, for children, the most important ones in their lives and we have to be very selective about the type of people we allow on board, as there's a huge responsibility,' said Karen Ferris Cole, Sunshine House's group director.

The programme of structured activities demanded a significant amount of planning, implementation and evaluation on a day-to-day basis, she said.

Qualified applicants with a diploma in early childhood, a bachelor's degree in education or the National Nursery Examining Board (NNEB) qualification were welcome, she said.

'We would like [candidates] to be experienced, but sometimes good teachers come straight from college with great fresh ideas and are full of imagination.'

That said, the school looks beyond both qualifications and experience to applicants' attitudes and personalities.

'What clinches it for us is if someone has a genuine love of children and an understanding and passion for working for them, [as] this is a vocational position, not a job,' Ms Ferris Cole said.
