What is it? An updated Japanese izakaya, or tavern, serving foods that go well with drinks.
What was it? This site has had an illustrious history. It was Aqua before it moved to bigger premises across the harbour (to One Peking Road, to be precise). After that, it was Italian restaurant Nove.
Clientele: Hip young things slurping down sake cocktails and nibbling on Japanese snacks.
What's on the menu? Deep-fried squid roe with spicy black cod roe ($138), grilled fresh white fish with namban-zuke sauce ($118), shrimp and fish fillet with asparagus ($188, left), deep-fried silk tofu in a light crispy batter ($88), tempura combination platter ($188), chicken gizzard in spicy sauce ($88), cold or hot udon or soba noodles ($85) and, of course, a large selection of sushi and sashimi, including sushi platters from $328-$628 and sashimi platters from $388-$680.
What else? As with all Aqua Group restaurants, Mizu is cool and stylish.
