Wong Kar-wai's five-year project 2046 placed third in the best film category at Sunday night's Hong Kong Film Awards.
The Hong Kong Film Awards has released the lists of runners-up and second runners-up for each award category. Kung Fu Hustle won the award for best film, while One Nite in Mongkok, by Derek Yee Tung-sing, placed second ahead of 2046.
Yee won the best director award. Kung Fu Hustle director Stephen Chow Sing-chi was the runner-up in the best director category. Art-house darling Wong ranked third.
Singer-turned-actress Tian Yuan won the award for best new performer for her role in Butterfly. Second was Race Wong Yuen-ling (AB-Normal Beauty). Jaycee Fong Cho-ming (The Twins Effect II) came third. Socialite-turned-actress Teresa Cheung Siu-wai (Colour Blossoms) was not among the top three.
Tony Leung Chiu-wai's victory in the best actor category was no surprise. Action star Jackie Chan (New Police Story) placed second, followed by comedy king Chow (Kung Fu Hustle).
Last year's best actress, Cecilia Cheung Pak-chi (One Nite In Mongkok), failed to make it to the top three. Kung Fu Hustle's Yuen Qiu was the first runner-up while Sylvia Chang Ai-chia (20 30 40) came third. Zhang Ziyi won the award for performance in 2046.
The awards are voted on by industry professionals.
