Police thriller changes Hur's picture of HK

Veteran South Korean actor Hur Joon-ho said award-winning film Infernal Affairs changed his perception about Hong Kong movies.

'Before Infernal Affairs, there were only a few good movies produced in Hong Kong,' he said. 'I got the impression that Hong Kong movies were just about making money.'

Hur said few movies in Hong Kong had decent storylines until the award-winning thriller, directed by Andrew Lau Wai-keung and Alan Mak Siu-fai, came along in 2002.

'Infernal Affairs was like a turning point,' said Hur (above). 'It put Hong Kong movies back on track.'

The 40-year-old actor will appear in Daniel Lee Yau-kong's new action movie, Dragon Squad, co-starring Sammo Hung Kam-bo, Shawn Yue Man-lok and Taiwanese boy band F4's Vanness Wu Jian-hao. Shooting begins in Hong Kong this month.
