Two charged after police seize drugs, stun gun

About $1.5 million worth of cannabis and a stun gun were seized from two drug traffickers, police said yesterday. Officers of the Narcotics Bureau intercepted two men, aged 30 and 37, in Cheung Sha Wan on Saturday morning and found a small amount of cannabis on them. More drugs were found later in a flat at King Lam Estate in Tseung Kwan O. Police believe the drugs were for local consumption. Both men were charged with drug trafficking and the 30-year-old was also charged with possession of ammunition. They will appear in Kowloon Court today.

Grave sweepers trigger at least seven hill fires

Government helicopters were deployed to tackle at least seven hill fires that broke out as the public went grave sweeping ahead of tomorrow's Ching Ming Festival. The largest fire, which affected an area 400 metres by 400 metres, occurred near the crematorium in Diamond Hill at about 10am. It was put out at 5pm. Smaller fires broke out in Yuen Long, Sheung Shui, Tseung Kwan O, Lamma Island and Mui Wo on Lantau.

Four children develop fever in hospital

Four children admitted to the Caritas Medical Centre's Developmental Disabilities Unit had developed fever and respiratory symptoms, the hospital said. The children, two boys and two girls aged nine to 13, were being treated in isolation and their condition was stable, a spokesman said. No staff had developed symptoms and visiting arrangements had not been altered.

23 arrested in raids on illegal workers

Police and immigration officers arrested 23 people in an operation against illegal workers. The joint operation targeted five pubs and restaurants in Kowloon City on Saturday night, lasting into the early hours of yesterday. The officers arrested 19 Thai men, aged 18 to 38, working in the venues. Five locals - four men and a woman aged 25 to 45 - were arrested for employing those detained.

Falling window hurts man

A man was injured by a window falling from a 5th-floor unit in Aberdeen Main Street at 8pm. Half an hour later, a window fell from a 10th-floor unit in Hoi Kwong Street, Quarry Bay. No one was injured.

Man attacks police

A 21-year-old man who appeared to be drunk was arrested in Kwai Chung at 4am when he attacked a police officer mediating a dispute he was having with a taxi driver.
