Toy designer seeks senior merchandiser

An American organisation is looking for an outstanding senior merchandising and quality control manager to serve its operations in Shenzhen, in addition to dedicating a significant amount of their work time to travel in the mainland.
Shure Products is a rapidly growing educational toy designer and manufacturer, and children's book publisher, based in Chicago, with a branch office in Shenzhen.
The new recruit will be responsible for demonstrating leading technical competence and for gaining qualifications for the respective Shure product lines.
Reporting to the general manager of the company's China branch, he or she will direct and oversee a team of three to five product managers. Whoever fills this post will enjoy direct responsibility for the identification and evaluation of lower-cost vendors in order to support procurement activities.
Establishing and maintaining supplier relationships is also on the agenda, along with evaluating supplier performance regularly and resolving any issues that occur during services delivery.
The successful candidate will be required to determine and develop approaches to assignments and solve a broad range of procurement-related problems of varying scope and complexity. In addition, agreeing on strategy with functional partners, participating in negotiations and managing the risks at a low level with respect to contract initiatives, service delivery and termination is par for the course.
Candidates should demonstrate a detailed knowledge of contracts and an understanding of what terms are and are not negotiable.
They must also be comfortable working with external and internal customers, and capable of delivering top-notch results, ranging from successful sourcing to a consistent level of service and service improvement.
Those gunning for this role should be armed with a business degree. A minimum of five years' experience in merchandising, managing vendor relationships, sourcing new suppliers and negotiating purchases and delivery dates with factories is a must.
Candidates must also be a dab hand at conflict resolution, troubleshooting and quality oversight in factories. Another key attribute is experience in managing and leading a team of merchandisers.
That said, strong operational, organisational and project management skills are important, combined with fluent written and spoken English and Putonghua and excellent computer skills.
He or she should be experienced at working with wooden toys, and art and craft items.
