Whereas the first in the Children of the Light Isles saga, Wolfskin, was about a Viking voyage to Orkney, this second draws more on fantasy, with a new generation of Nordic warriors. Creidhe, the daughter of Eyvind and Nessa, and Thorvald, the son of Margaret and the murderous traitor Somerled, are friends. Margaret tells Thorvald the identity of his father and reveals that Somerled isn't dead. Thorvald and his friend set off in search of Somerled. Once at sea, they find a stowaway, Creidhe. This sequel starts fast with Thorvald's shocking discovery, slows to explore subplots, then picks up speed towards the end.
