Husband jailed for blackmailing teacher

Cheng Bo-wai, a 46-year-old technician, has been jailed for 25 months for blackmailing a primary school teacher who had a crush on his wife. Cheng had pleaded guilty to one count of theft and one count of blackmail earlier in the District Court. Cheng had threatened to disclose to the school the letters sent by the teacher to his wife.

Worker crushed to death

A worker was crushed to death when a 3-metre by 3-metre wall he was demolishing with an air compressor collapsed on him at a building site in Tung Chung, Lantau. Chung Chiu-ming, 57, was hit by at least three concrete slabs at the Tung Chung Waterfront Road site just before 10.30am.

Lunar eclipse on sunday

A partial eclipse of the moon will take place between 3.50pm and 8pm on Sunday when the moon falls in the Earth's shadow. But the eclipse can only be witnessed from 6.46pm, when the moon rises. Stargazers are advised to look to the east-southeast from places like Shek O and Sai Kung.

Man hangs himself

A 26-year-old man hanged himself with a cloth from the upper deck of a bunk bed in his Quarry Bay apartment. He was found by his wife in a Po Fung Garden unit in King's Road at 1am. He was declared dead in hospital.

Motorist killed in crash

A motorist was killed and a bus driver injured when a car crossed into the opposite lane and collided head-on with a bus at 5.30am on a Ngau Tau Kok flyover.

No one won first prize in last night's draw. The numbers were 4, 9, 22, 30, 33 and 35. The extra number was 13. One ticket won second prize of $1,197,060. Third prize paid $35,865.
