Starting out on what turned out to be a big Saturday night in March, me and a mate had dinner at Bombay Dreams on Hollywood Road. It serves perhaps the best Indian food I've eaten in Central and was a good start to the heady night that was to follow.

After dinner we headed to Causeway Bay, where we met a bunch of people who had spent the day at the Rugby Sevens. We had a few drinks on the roof garden of their flat in Times Square while we prepared to head to the event that got us out in the first place: DJ Dexter at Club Ing.

Most notable as The Avalanches' turntablist, many consider Dexter one of the best DJs around. It's rare that we get people of this stature playing in Hong Kong, so it wasn't to be missed.

The crowd at Ing was a real mixture of locals and people from all over the place, gathered by the same driving force: the music. Beginning his set with a Jimi Hendrix sample, Dexter went on to play an eclectic mix that covered all bases, getting everyone dancing.

As Dexter left the decks to a roar of appreciation from the crowd, the time seemed right for us to head back into Central.

Baby B near Lan Kwai Fong has become a regular hangout for us in the past few weeks. Always open for that all-important 'one more drink', it offers a more chilled and comfortable atmosphere than most of the other late-night spots. Dexter himself even showed up about 5am, looking to wind down after his busy night and wishing to sample a little more of Hong Kong before his return to Australia.

As the sun rose we decided to get some dim sum. At 7am, a little dazed and confused, we stumbled to a place off Staunton Street. The old locals were there for an early-morning start, but were happy to welcome us around a large table. The only place to be from there was home, in bed and a few hours' kip before getting up to do it all over again at the R.E.M. gig.
