Ballet connoisseurs and dance lovers flocked to a cocktail reception at Sha Tin Town Hall recently for the opening performance of Spartacus.

About 100 guests enjoyed wine and canapes at the reception, which took place during the first interval of the show. Guests got the chance to meet choreographer Irek Mukhamedov, who danced the role of Spartacus when he was with the Bolshoi Ballet.

The evening was a gathering of top names from the ballet world, including Jean Wong, Stephen Jefferies and wife Rashna Homji, and Helen Ng Han-bing.

Spartacus was originally choreographed by Yuri Grigorovich in 1968, but the Hong Kong Ballet performance was a new interpretation by Mukhamedov. Paul Surtees, Kirby Patton, Ingeborg Wolf, Randolph O'Hara, Susan Street and Spencer Cusick Smith also attended.
