Pair throw paint over inspector

Two men ambushed an inspector from the Electrical and Mechanical Services Department, pouring red paint over him in To Kwa Wan yesterday.

Senior Building Services inspector Yuen Chi-keung, 51, told police he was waylaid near his Chatham Road North office on his way to work at 8.30am. He said the attack could be linked to a dispute involving a subcontractor.

Two men, thought to be in their early 30s, approached Mr Yuen from behind and poured paint over his head and back.

The pair fled on foot before officers arrived. They mounted a search but no one was arrested.

Mr Yuen, who is responsible for monitoring government engineering work, did not need medical treatment.

An officer at Hunghom police station said the dispute involving the subcontractor was part of their investigation.

But the officer said the attack appeared to be a warning rather than an attempt to injure Mr Yuen.
