1976: Joined the police force as a constable

1978: Moved to the Identification Bureau (IB)

1983: Became the first woman sergeant in IB

1989: Became the first woman fingerprint expert in Hong Kong

2005: Helped with the identification process in Phuket after the Asian tsunami

Requirements to join IB: At least two years' experience in the police force and must pass a written selection test and an interview

Requirements to join the police force:

(a) Grade E or above in three subjects, including Chinese and English Language (Syllabus B), in the HKCEE

(b) ability to speak fluent Cantonese

(c) minimum physical standards for male: height 163cm, weight 50kg; for female: height 152cm, weight 42kg

Police constable (Starting salary around $14,000)

Sergeant (Starting salary around $23,000, promotions according to performance and tests)

Fingerprint expert (Have to take part in a series of selection tests and interviews)

Station sergeant (Starting salary around $25,000, at least four years' experience as a sergeant and be a fingerprint expert)

Inspector (Starting salary around $35,000, responsible for administrative and supervisory duties)
