Distinction knows no boundaries when it comes to the fine art of watchmaking
A NUMBER OF watch companies have produced spectacular models this year. One of the most outstanding launches is by Blancpain and is called Apotheosis Temporis (pictured facing page). It is an exceptional matching set of eight superb examples of the art of horology, each featuring a different complication.
'These eight watches present the full range of mechanical, technical and human genius and take the art of watchmaking to new peaks of accomplishment,' Blancpain said.
This unique set is supplied in their own lacquered wooden piece of furniture decorated with exquisite marquetry-worked Macassar ebony cabinet.
The eight storage compartments are each equipped with a rotating motor, adapted to the complication of the watch destined for each compartment to ensure it is wound continuously when not being worn (more on page 10).
Chopard has long been recognised as one of the world's outstanding jewellery manufacturers, but now it is also a true watch manufacture, the French term used to describe a company that has the ability to produce its own components and make its own movements. Most watch companies buy basic parts from specialist producers.
