Girl, 5, calls uncle after her mother cuts wrist

A five-year-old girl in Tin Shui Wai probably saved her mother's life yesterday by phoning an uncle at 3.30am after discovering her mother had slashed her right wrist. The uncle called police, who rescued the 29-year-old woman from her flat in Locwood Court, Kingswood Villas, in Tin Wu Road. The woman was taken to Tuen Mun Hospital.

Meanwhile, three people committed suicide yesterday. Chong Ho-shan, 15, swallowed pills to kill herself in a flat in Chung May House, Chung Nga Court, Tai Po, after dinner with her parents and 27-year-old elder sister to celebrate Mother's Day. She was found unconscious in bed after her mother returned home at 1am from a mahjong game.

A 25-year-old Mongolian woman jumped off the roof of Pearl City Mansion in Paterson Street, Causeway Bay, at 2.30am.

And in Tsuen Wan, a 44-year-old man killed himself by burning charcoal in the storeroom of his Chung On Street flat.

Police ask for help after pedestrian dies

Police are trying to identify an elderly woman who died after being hit by a minibus in Sheung Shui. The woman was crossing Lung Sum Avenue near the junction of Jockey Club Road when she was struck just before 7.30am. She was taken to North District Hospital, where she was declared dead. No identity document was found on the woman. Anyone with information should call police on 2677 6299.

Bullets found in drain

Three rusty bullets were found in a drain in Luen Wo Hui, Sheung Shui. Police do not believe they are some of the six bullets lost by a constable while on patrol in Tin Shui Wai on Saturday.

7 hurt in minibus crash

A driver and his six passengers were injured when his minibus crashed into a hillside in Tai Po Road near Deerhill Villas at 11.30am yesterday. The five men and two women were aged between 40 and 62.
