Gong Li's latest handiwork hard to describe
Who would've guessed that such a common body part would have such a big impact? Wong Kar-wai's new short film The Hand, which is one of three stories about erotic love in Eros, has stirred up a bit of discussion in town because of - what else - a hand and man's private part.
But while you may have read about Wong and Chang Chen, the male lead, in this newspaper in the past weeks, you have not heard from the other person involved.
We are referring to mainland actress Gong Li who plays a high-class call girl who has an intimate relationship with her tailor. In the film, Gong's character is ill and can express herself only through her hands.
CitySeen spoke with the actress who is in the United States to shoot a film remake of the television series Miami Vice with Jamie Foxx.
We asked her if she thought her hand was sexy. 'I'm not sure because it's the first time I heard this,' she said. 'The film gives me a lot of space for imagination - why can't a person who doesn't speak use her hands to express herself?' She also said she needed to be '100 per cent sure about her own ability plus [give] 200 per cent effort' to fully use her talents in the film. Indeed.
