There was a sparkle in the air when Chanel recently hosted a cocktail party to launch Elements Celestes, this year's addition to the Chanel Collection Privee.

And judging by the uneven ratio of women to men in the room, it wasn't hard to guess that the main attraction was precious stones and pearls. As at all jewellery stores, the Chanel boutique in the Prince's Building is usually over-lit with halogen spotlights to bring out the sparkle, but on this occasion a black backdrop was used to highlight the mystery of the launch.

When it was announced that guests could handle the jewellery, the excited chatter of the room escalated. Wendy Wan Yuen-mei was seen taking a bracelet from one of the five models and trying it on.
