Police seek help to find toddler's mother

Police are looking for the mother of an 18-month-old boy who was brought to Mongkok police station on Wednesday night. The toddler, believed to be Thai, is being cared for at the Po Leung Kuk orphanage. Two Thai women, aged 39 and 40, took the boy to the station about 10pm. The pair said they were friends of the boy's mother, who left him with them at their flat in Fa Yuen Street, Mongkok. The mother said she had to go to work and would come back for him. She has since disappeared. Anyone with information should call police on 2398 6279 or 2398 6200.

Public warned against mainland asthma medicine

Health authorities warned the public against using a mainland Chinese asthma medicine, called kangchuanwan in Putonghua, which contains five western prescription ingredients - morphine, diazepam, chlorpheniramine, codeine and clenbuterol - that may cause fainting, anxiety, constipation and shortness of breath. The medicine is not imported to Hong Kong but is available on the mainland.

Motorcyclist in critical condition after crash

A motorcyclist was critically injured when he crashed head-on with a van in Happy Valley. Wong Wai-hung, 35, fell into a coma after the crash on Wong Nai Chung Gap Road about 1.30pm. The 32-year-old driver of the goods vehicle told police he lost control of the van when his mobile phone fell to the floor and he tried to pick it up. He was unhurt and passed a breath test.

Youth leaps to his death from aberdeen block

A 16-year-old boy, Ngai Yiu-long, leapt to his death from a public housing block in Aberdeen yesterday. In a separate case, Kong Siu-lun, 47, died after burning charcoal in his third-floor unit in Wan Chai Road, Wan Chai, about 3pm. His wife told police he had financial troubles.

Pair caught selling drugs

Two suspected drug traffickers were arrested after they sold heroin to two undercover officers in separate cases in Western. Officers seized $3,300 worth of suspected heroin from the two men, aged 53 and 54.

No one won the first prize in last night's draw. The numbers were 16, 18, 23, 31, 34 and 47. The extra number was 38. Three tickets each won second prize of $529,580. Third prize paid $56,485.
