Oscar Night Club sues ex-employees

A nightclub in Tsim Sha Tsui is suing two of its former public relations supervisors for $650,000 for alleged breach of employment contracts.

Sheening Ltd, trading as Oscar Night Club, has filed a writ at the District Court seeking to recover $150,000 from Tse Wan-ying and $500,000 from Ice Chow Po-po after they allegedly failed to turn up for work in April last year before their contracts lapsed.

According to the writ, Mr Tse and Mr Chow joined the nightclub as public relations supervisors in January 2003 under 18-month employment contracts.

Mr Tse was advanced a $30,000 loan as an entertainment fee upon joining, while Mr Chow received $100,000.

The writ claims that employees were liable to compensate the employer with a sum equivalent to five times the outstanding loan in the event of any breach of contract.

The nightclub contended that Mr Tse and Mr Chow agreed to be transferred to an affiliate nightclub - Oriental Star River Night Club - in April 2003.

It further alleged that Mr Tse and Mr Chow failed to show up for work from late April last year onward, two months before their contracts were due to expire.
