Yiu tips hat-trick for Power

Trainer Ricky Yiu Poon-fie scored again with promising three-year-old Solar Power and is hopeful of a third before the season is out but his ambitions are light by comparison with those of the horse's owner.

Owner Hui Leung-wah is also the owner of Solar, who was trained by Yiu before moving to Almond Lee Yee-tat this term and winning four races, and Hui has the skies in his sights with his two charges.

'He is a very lucky owner. These are the first two horses he's ever had and he has already won six races in this season,' Yiu (pictured) grinned.

'He told me his aim is to make it nine - two more with Solar and one more with Solar Power before the end of the season, and maybe he will. I will see how he comes out of this race but I think Solar Power probably has one more race in him. I just hope the owner realises how lucky he is.'

Unlike most trainers, who are keen to stay down in their classes, Yiu said he hoped the handicapper would put Solar Power up quickly after the Class Three win.

'He had 125 pounds to carry today and if he stays in Class Four he will have more than 130 pounds next time,' said Yiu.

'The horse himself is only 970 pounds so it's quite a lot for him. If he goes to Class Three, he will be back down the bottom of the weights again which will suit him better.'
