Kenzo's maverick designer sizes up the city

His designs and shows completely blow us away, but the creative genius behind fashion brand Kenzo says Hong Kong is what impresses him. On his first visit to our city, Antonio Marras (right) tells CitySeen Hong Kong is more spectacular than he imagined. 'What amazes me are the buildings; there are so many and they're so close together. At night, the skyline reminds me of the movie Bladerunner.' Though the designer works on the fast-paced avenues of high fashion, he lives a very serene life in Sardinia, Italy, with his wife and two boys. His creations may be ostentatious, but he enjoys bumming around the house, successfully dodging parties and, most of the time, the press. Asked if it bothers him when people still believe Kenzo is a Japanese fashion brand (the Japanese founder left years ago), Marras says that after the past three season's shows, most people know there has been a change. Francois Steiner, CEO of the label, who is also here to celebrate the opening of the Kenzo boutique in Central, says it is a challenge managing an 'irrational' designer and creating a rational business out of it.

Seems like they're doing a pretty good job.
