Robbers foiled after bomb threat
Five robbers threatened to bomb a trading company with a grenade before binding and gagging five employees in a raid yesterday.
The robbers were attempting to steal hard disks valued at $1 million, but had to flee empty-handed after the victims freed themselves from their bonds and called police.
Two drivers caught loading the loot into two goods vans were arrested but officers last night were still hunting for the five robbers.
The Kowloon Bay office was raided after a worker answered the door about 1.30pm.
Chief Inspector Ng Shu-ming of Sau Mau Ping police station said five robbers threatened the three men and two women with two stun guns, a knife and what appeared to be a grenade.
'The robbers zapped two male employees with stun guns. And then the five staff members had their limbs tied with plastic cords and mouths covered with tapes,' Chief Inspector Ng said.
But the victims were able to free themselves quickly and call police.
Heavily armed officers from the Kowloon East emergency unit caught the two drivers loading 100 boxes of hard drives into their vans in the car park of the Wang Hoi Road industrial building.
The two drivers are understood to have told investigators they were hired to collect a consignment of goods. They were being held for questioning last night.
