We have selected one programme for each day of the week from TVB Pearl or ATV World. Enjoy the shows and learn English at the same time. We also recommend the daily news report (7.30-8pm, on both channels) which has English subtitles, helping you follow the news script and improve your pronunciation, listening skills and spelling.

Devouring everything in their path, they damage livelihoods, devastate entire regions and challenge authorities in how to deal with them. This show takes a look at the impact of locusts in West Africa this year and, using scientific research, tries to find out if their disappearance in North America in the last century could hold the key to stopping them today.

June 5: Timeblazers (ATV World 5.30-6pm)

What was it like building the great pyramids of Egypt? Where did people go to the bathroom in ancient Rome? What was it like to be a kid working on Columbus' ship as it set sail for the new world? These are the kind of nitty-gritty questions about history that children love to ask - and Timeblazers loves to answer.

Get to know the past by taking a trip through history. Alex always thought he was an ordinary kid - until Sam and Jen appeared. Now these two mysterious friends take him back in time to show him what life in the past was really like.

The only problem is, things always go wrong and lead to the craziest comic situations. Watch Sam stumble through a tour of duty as a member of Columbus's sailing crew in 1492. Or witness Jen becoming a high priestess in the lost Mayan civilization - given the task of sacrificing Sam to the Gods! You'll realise that for our heroes, each step back in time means a comic adventure that knows

no limits.

Giant impacts have happened throughout history - 250 million years ago a giant asteroid killed a staggering 90 per cent of all species on Earth. So when will the next big one happen? Could we spot it coming and could we divert it on its way?

June 7 : Black Hole High (ATV World, 5:05-5.35pm)

June 8: Built for the Kill (IV) (TVB Pearl 9.30-10.35pm)

Cats can be graceful and lethal hunters.

They are able to hunt down their victims in different environments, from dense rainforests to dry African savannas.

They have a large number of tools to execute the perfect kill.

Lions hunt together, while the leopard is a solitary stalker which takes its prey by surprise.

A jaguar's jaw has immense crushing power while the cheetah is built to kill at top speed. Lone hunters or team players, cats are highly specialised, and have their own mode of attack.

And they are all built for the kill.

June 9: Natural World: Typhoon Island Unique (TVB Pearl 8-9pm, BBC)

Beautiful and full of life, Taiwan has been shaken by earthquakes and typhoons, warring headhunters and the explosion of Asia's hi-tech economy. But the island remains home to some of the richest wildlife in Asia.

With just one-tenth of the land mass, Taiwan still boasts as many mammal species as neighbouring Japan. Almost half of its species are unique. With its relatively small size and towering peaks, the island of Taiwan is very unusual.
