APA offers summer training for young theatre lovers

Lilian Goh

The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts (APA) is conducting training courses for young theatre lovers this summer.

Students aged between seven and 21 can enrol in programmes organised by the APA's Summer Musical School (SMS) which will cover various aspects of a theatre production.

They will also be able to participate in a performance produced by the SMS.

The SMS provides training in music, dance, acting, stage management, lighting, sound, set and costume design, make-up, and props.

After three weeks of intensive training and rehearsals, the SMS will stage The King and I at the Academy Drama Theatre in mid-August.

There will be four performances of the 90-minute musical which is based on the book, Anna and the King of Siam, written by Margaret Landon.

For those aged 13 or above, the course fee is $2,500, while younger participants will have to pay $2,800 each. The deadline for applications is June 28.
