Valuable resources squandered

I REFER to your reader Miss Elaine Lee's letter (South China Morning Post, October 22) headlined, ''Mid-Levels escalator supporter''. She does not feel that the Mid-Levels escalator is a complete waste of money.

Although it is in operation and attractive, it is inconvenient for passengers, especially the elderly, because they will have trouble using it when it is overcrowded.

Also, it works only in the morning and at night and only goes in one direction, so it is not convenient for everyone.

It is, in effect, a complete waste of money and such money could have been better spent on improving social welfare.
