For passers-by, it may have seemed like just another bling affair when Piaget celebrated the reopening of its store in Prince's Building on Thursday evening. Yves Piaget, the fourth generation of the Piaget luxury watch makers, mingled with Hong Kong's VIPs and though the guests were surrounded by diamond watches, the topic of the evening was charity. Piaget and Yumiko Kuok, co-chair of the charity Habitat For Humanity, were overheard discussing the charity event planned for November.

Piaget tells CitySeen that in his world of luxury, it is important to stay grounded. 'When people learn that my last name is Piaget, they automatically have a certain judgment of me. But to me, Piaget is first a name of a family and then it is an international brand. Authenticity is very important; I think it is the most important thing in the world.'

His authenticity comes in the form of a $1 million donation ($300,000 in cash and the rest through product donations) to Habitat For Humanity. The charity was founded more than 30 years ago in the US but is relatively new to our city. Its aim is to eliminate worldwide homelessness and poverty. Kuok tells CitySeen they are helping the elderly with home repairs: 'We want to give a more comfortable living condition to people who are unable to help themselves.'
