Five policemen hurt in supermarket scuffle
Five policemen were injured when a 32-year-old man suspected of stealing a bottle of shampoo resisted arrest. The man had paid for a range of items in a supermarket in Jordan but had slipped the shampoo, costing $90, into his bag. He threw water over the officers and pointed a knife at himself. He was finally brought under control after a scuffle and will be charged with theft and resisting arrest. The injured policemen were treated at Queen Elizabeth hospital.
Two arrested after barman knifed to death
Two men have been arrested on suspicion of murdering a 32-year-old man outside Mei Lun House in Sha Tin. The victim worked in a pub in Tsuen Nam Road where he and a female co-worker had a dispute with two men. She told police the two men appeared again when they left the pub and stabbed the victim. He was certified dead in hospital. The two attackers fled in a taxi but were caught by police.
Parents and pupils in protest to save school
Parents and pupils from Tung Koon District Society School in To Kwa Wan held a protest against the Education and Manpower Bureau's order that it stop offering Primary One classes in September because of its low intake. An application to run privately funded classes has been rejected. Petition letters were written and will be sent to the chief executive's office.
Good-passenger campaign
The Kowloon-Canton Railway Corporation launched its Good Passenger Campaign 2005 at West Rail Kam Sheung Road Station. The main focus of the campaign is to remind passengers to use their Octopus cards on the platforms before boarding trains.
Another window falls
A window fell from a flat at Braemar Hill Mansion, North Point, at 8.30am. Police warned the tenant, who was sleeping at the time. No one was hurt.
