NORWICH City, on cloud nine after their historic triumph over Bayern Munich in the UEFA Cup on Wednesday, continued to fly high with a 2-1 away victory over Sheffield United in the English Premier League yesterday.
But England's other successes in Europe, Arsenal, suffered injury-time heartbreak at Highbury as Andy Townsend struck to give Aston Villa a 2-1 win.
Norwich's Jeremy Goss, the hero against Bayern with spectacular volleys in both legs, continued where he left off by firing home a powerful 26th-minute header from Ruel Fox's cross to put Norwich ahead at Bramall Lane.
United equalised from the penalty spot just before half-time. Dane Whitehouse blasted the ball high into the Norwich net after John Polston had handled in the area.
But teenager Darren Eadie took advantage of a defensive mix-up in the 57th minute to break clear and grab Norwich's winner.
Norwich closed the gap on runaway leaders Manchester United to eight points. United play neighbours City in the Manchester derby at Maine Road today.
