1985: Started studying for the Professional Diploma in Physiotherapy at the Hong Kong Polytechnic - now known as

the Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU)

1989: Graduated and joined Hong Kong Sanatorium and Hospital as a physiotherapist II

1991: Promoted to physiotherapist I

1997: Promoted to senior physiotherapist

How to get there

Course: Bachelor degree of Science (Hons) in Physiotherapy

School: PolyU's Department of Rehabilitation Sciences

Duration: 3 years

Characteristics: Besides theoretical knowledge, students have to complete more than 1,000 hours of clinical education in hospitals, out-patient departments or rehabilitation centres

Physiotherapist II B (Fresh university graduates; works under the supervision of physiotherapist II A for a year; starting salary around $16,000 to $20,000)

Physiotherapist II A (Works more independently)

Physiotherapist I (Minimum 2 years' experience; salary around $30,000)

Senior physiotherapist (Helps with management work, salary around $50,000)

Department manager (Responsible for the operation of the whole department, including manpower and stock resources)
