FAIRYTALE BALLET
In celebration of Hans Christian Andersen's bicentenary, Hong Kong Ballet will present The Emperor & the Nightingale.
The ballet is based on Andersen's fairytale The Nightingale. Set in ancient China, the emperor hears the nightingale's song and is enchanted. But after receiving a gift of a mechanical nightingale, the emperor ignores the real bird. As the mechanical bird breaks down, the emperor realises the true loss of the real nightingale.
The performance will be staged from Friday to Sunday at 7.30pm, with weekend matinees at 2.30pm at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre Grand Theatre. Tickets cost $260, $210, $160 and $100, with half-price for students. Reservations from Urbtix on 2734 9009.
ROCK FESTIVAL PHOTOS
Photographer Birdy Chu takes his camera to rock concerts so that he can capture the energy of youth. His works will be on display in an exhibition called Rock Fans' Diary at the Goethe Institute Hong Kong from Thursday to July 27.
Chu graduated from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University majoring in Graphic Design. He then won a scholarship to study photography and video production in Canada. Since returning to Hong Kong in 1997, he has been using photos and videos to capture the spirit of this city.
