Fantastic is an apt word to describe the latest comic book series adapted for the big screen. The superheroes of Fantastic Four were originally created by Stan Lee (the creator of Spider-Man) and Jack Kirby 44 years ago.

Scientist Dr Reed (Ioan Gruffudd) and his crewmates Ben (Michael Chiklis), Sue (Jessica Alba) and Johnny (Chris Evans) embark on a space mission accompanied by billionaire doctor Victor Von Doom (Julian McMahon), who has funded the exploration.

A freak accident exposes them to radioactive storm clouds which dramatically changes their DNA and gives each of them a unique superhuman power. Dr Reed, Ben, Johnny and Sue become the Fantastic Four - a dysfunctional family of superheroes use their powers to protect the citizens of New York City from danger.

In addition to having unique powers, they also have distinct personalities, which not only cause friction within the group, but have great entertainment value.

Meanwhile, Dr Doom - whose strength grows more powerful by the day - plots to destroy the foursome as revenge for the failed space mission, which has damaged his business empire.

A lot of effort has been put into the captivating special effects and costumes, making the film good summer entertainment.
