Theatre director publishes his reflections on Hong Kong

Outspoken theatre director Edward Lam Yik-wah has released a four-book series, Waiting for Hong Kong, to express his opinions on his hometown.

Dedicated to entertainment, youth, women and culture, the series is a collection of Lam's newspaper and magazine columns.

Lam is well-known for his popular political comedy theatre series, East Wing West Wing, which he has spent recent years working on with theatre director Mathias Woo Yan-wai.

'I was born and raised in Hong Kong and I love this place. But there are so many things happening here that I am not happy about,' said Lam, founder of the Edward Lam Dance Theatre. 'Hopefully, readers will be inspired by the books to find a way to improve our city.'

Artist Anthony Wong Yiu-ming, a friend of Lam's, attended the book launch at Festival Walk's Page One book store last week. Wong appears on the cover of the book which is dedicated to youth.

Waiting for Hong Kong, published by Oxford University Press, is available at most bookstores.
