Using a desktop personal computer with the latest bells and whistles sometimes means a compromise to live with all the ambient noise the machine creates. Those days are about to disappear, according to Dell. The PC giant released last week its Dimension 5100C desktop system, with a redesigned chassis that features its Balanced Technology Extended specifications and QuietCase technology. That combination used in the model's alpine-white and arctic-silver chassis helps reduce noise and improve cooling. At 30.5 x 10.2cm, the 5100C takes up little space. Its front panel slides open for access to a full range of ports, including an optional nine-in-one media card reader, to let users quickly connect digital devices or transfer photos, music and video. Prices start at $6,099.
