Brothers arrested over assault on officer

Two brothers aged 28 and 31 were arrested yesterday after they allegedly assaulted a police officer at Whampoa Garden in Hunghom.

Two policemen approached a car in Tak Fung Street outside Lily Mansion, Whampoa Garden, when they heard people shouting inside the vehicle at 1am.

The two men jumped out of the car, allegedly ignoring warnings, and assaulted one of the officers. Both men were arrested. One officer sustained minor leg injuries.

three men in court to face bribery charges

A former property manager and two former bosses of engineering firms appeared in Kowloon City Court to face bribery charges.

Cheung Lai-sha, 39, a former property manager of Chesterton Petty Limited, Hung Tak-ming, 48, and Hoi Wai-pio, 36, former bosses of Sheen Rise Engineering Limited and Hang Wai Engineering Company, jointly faced one count of conspiracy to defraud Chesterton over a $200,000 contract.

The fraud is alleged to have taken place between April 1 and June 21, 2002.

No pleas were taken and the case was adjourned until August 9, pending transfer to the District Court.

one killed, 14 injured in traffic accidents

A motorcyclist, 37, was killed in a collision with a dump truck in Tai Po Road, Cheung Sha Wan at 1.30pm.

A 16-year-old boy was in a serious condition in the Prince of Wales Hospital after his bicycle and a truck collided in So Kwun Po Road in Sheung Shui at 9am.

In a third case, 13 people were injured in a pile-up on Clear Water Bay Road, Sai Kung, at 1pm.

The crash involved two minibuses, two taxis and a car. The five men and eight women, aged between 24 and 58, were all taken to Tseung Kwan O Hospital for treatment.
