The right wine

As a general rule, pair red wine with hard, aged cheese, and white wine with soft, milder cheese. The most important thing is to avoid pairings where one overpowers the other. A good idea is to match cheese and wine from the same region:


Comte + Beaujolais or Burgundy;


Parmigiano Reggiano + Chianti, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc or Riesling;


Cheddar + Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Riesling or Syrah;


Gruyere + Gewurztraminer, Sauvignon Blanc, Syrah, Riesling or Chardonnay.
