Art Saturdays

Sin Sin Fine Art

From Sat-Jul 29

Sometimes, when you put on a pair of new sunglasses, the world around you suddenly changes. And it's hard to believe that you didn't see it that way before. Sin Sin Fine Art's latest exhibition, Art Saturdays, gives you this heightened sense of reality.

From Saturday until August 13, the gallery features a new set of international artists every Saturday, from Indonesia, Thailand, China, Hong Kong and France.

This Saturday, three artists - Caroline Chiu, Jeffrey du Vallier d'Aragon Aranita and Youri Leroux - offer a diverse collection of photographs and paintings.

When Chiu got hold of a 100kg Polaroid camera (there are only 10 of this size in the world), she never looked back. Her 50 x 60 cm shots of Chinese flowers and wooden ancestral figures have an emotional quality. Casablanca Lily seems so fragile you're almost scared the petals might break.

Du Vallier d'Aragon Aranita, winner of the 2004 Sovereign Art Competition, paints and photographs old signs and the city's architecture. As a way of documenting history, the French Polynesian-born artist recreates Wan Chai, Pawn Shop with a photographic quality. The shadows and light of the building are realistic, yet, with an intensified colour of rich yellows and greens.

French artist Youri Leroux's mixed-media paintings explore bookshelves, spines of books and symbols.

Taking a closer look at these artists' works may just change your perspective of the world - without having to put on a pair of sunglasses.
