Golf club in Clearwater Bay looking for a foreman

An opportunity has arisen for individuals who are masters of the art of golf course maintenance.

A Hong Kong club that hosts local and international sports events and has won accolades for its services and facilities wants to recruit a replacement golf course foreman.

The Clearwater Bay Golf & Country Club is a non-profit-making private club with not only golf but also yachting, dining and recreation facilities.

'Responsibilities include operational work assignments, overseeing job performance and inspecting facility conditions,' said Darry Koster, the club's superintendent.

The successful candidate would be using his or her skills in all areas of the golf course and landscape maintenance department and involvement in projects would be hands-on, Mr Koster added.

Overseeing work assignments by crew members and assisting the manager with job procedures, work standards and machinery use are also part of the job. In addition, the new recruit will be responsible for enforcing safe working conditions and ensuring proper equipment use and work methods.

Other duties include reporting all disciplinary issues to the golf course superintendent and helping run operations in the absence of senior staff.

Those seeking this position must have a university diploma and, most importantly, a keen interest in plants and turf, according to Mr Koster.

'The candidate should also be capable of keeping precise maintenance records and implementing preventive maintenance programmes,' he said.

While prior experience of working with plants and landscaping is a plus, competent computer knowledge and an excellent command of written and spoken English and Cantonese are also musts.

'Positive thinking and a friendly demeanour is very important for anyone wanting to work here. You should be a team player,' Mr Koster said.
