Separate ways

The paper softwall resembles a giant accordion but instead of making noise, it dampens it. This ingenious freestanding partition can be configured in almost any way and compressed for storage. 'It is being purchased for use in houses, lofts, offices, public spaces and also for trade shows, window displays and photo shoots,' says Robert Pasut, director/manager of Canadian outlet Molo Design (www.molodesign.com). 'It is light and airy compared to typical partitions and also quite beautiful.' The honeycombed, fire-retardant paper it is made from also absorbs and transmits light. It does not require any support because the width of the wall (30cm) offers a stable base, provided the arrangement includes a few bends. Standard two-metre-tall units can be expanded from 3cm to more than 7.5 metres in length. It is available only in white with grey wool felt ends and costs US$990 plus about US$160 to ship it to Hong Kong.
