Ambitiously rousing debut

Jem's music is a combination of bright melodies, soul searching lyrics and diverse rhythms that grab you from the first listen.

The Welsh singer-songwriter's debut album Finally Woken comes after years of working behind the scenes in the music industry.

The CD is filled with unique beats, hooks and grooves. It kicks off with the exceptional They, which highlights Jem's angelic voice.

Falling for You, the vibrant Just a Ride (featured in The OC television series) and the pleading Save Me are tracks that bounce atop a pop rhythm.

A more aggressive track, 24, features soaring violins, sweeping guitar riffs and a ringing church bell in the background.

Jem's adventurous music style deserves plaudits. Her celestial vocals are ambitiously paired with trip-hop beats, atmospheric electronica, chilled out hip-hop and lilting reggae, creating an album that is a perfect companion for a lazy summer vacation.
