Apple's new iBooks get more processing power and two patent-pending features made popular in the PowerBook line. The new 12- and 14-inch iBooks have sleek, durable polycarbonate plastic casings and offer improved performance with, respectively, a 1.33-gigahertz and a 1.42GHz PowerPC G4 processor. Each iBook includes a scrolling TrackPad for easy scrolling through long webpages or to pan across large photographs and Apple's Sudden Motion Sensor technology to help protect a spinning hard drive if the notebook is dropped. The advanced operating system Mac OSX version 10.4 (aka Tiger), comes with every iBook. The basic iBook with 12-inch display sells for $7,900, while the 14-inch version (shown here) is priced at $10,200.
