South America route

TAIWAN's Kien Hung Shipping Co is to extend its present monthly Taiwan-South Africa-South America service to Japan at the end of December.

The new service will become the first direct, all-container shipping service between Japan and South America.

The service will be operated with a fleet of four vessels capable of carrying 780 to 1,170 TEUs (20 ft equivalent units).

Seven Seas Shipping Co has been appointed agent in Japan for the new service.

Kien Hung also operates a service between Taiwan and South Africa with two sailings a month.

On the monthly service, two sailings a month will be operated in the peak April-September period to handle the growing amount of cargo from Japan and the Far East to South Africa and South America.

The port rotations will be: Japan-Keelung-Kaohsiung-Hong Kong-Singapore-Port Louis-Durban-Cape Town-Paranagua-Santos-Cape Town-Durban-Singapore-Hong Kong-Kaohsiung-Keelung-Japan.
