How to get there
Course: Open Water Diver
Organiser: International (Elite) Divers' Training Centre
Characteristics: It accepts applicants as young as 10 who can swim well. The course includes theory and practice in a swimming pool and in the open water. Graduates will be awarded with a PADI certificate.
Duration: 4 weeks, 2 to 3 lessons a week

Course: Scuba Diver Course
Organiser: Hong Kong Institute of Scuba Training Ltd
Duration: 2 to 3 weeks, 3 to 5 lessons a week

The path
Dive Master (This is the lowest level of diving instructor; usually works as assistant to help master instructors lead a crew and make preparations for lessons; starting salary ranges from $15,000 to $20,000)
Master Instructor (Gives diving lessons which may be in a classroom, pool or in open water)
Course Director (Designs and gives diving lessons, monitors junior instructors)
Remarks: All dive masters and instructors must possess a recognised licence
