A donation of $5 million has been made to the Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) by Hari N. Harilela, chairman of the Harilela Group, and Padma Harilela.

The pair said they were glad to contribute to nurturing young talent in Hong Kong.

Ng Ching-fai, HKBU president and vice-chancellor, said the donation was an endorsement and recognition of HKBU's contribution to higher education over the past 50 years.

He also described the donation as timely for the second round of the government's matching grant scheme.

'It is great encouragement to the university community in pursuing quality teaching and research,' Professor Ng said.
