During the first stop on his world tour in Shanghai recently, Taiwanese singer David Tao baffled the 25,000-strong audience by dedicating a ballad to a mystery woman. 'There's a person I really miss who didn't come today,' said the singer-songwriter. 'I want to dedicate a song to her - Jo.'

More was revealed after the outdoor show, when Tao (right) said Joanna was the name of his girlfriend. 'She's in Taiwan,' he said. 'She's an important person to me. I wanted to share that moment with her.'

The gig was the first solo show he'd staged in the city. Next stop on the Love Can 2005 tour is Beijing on September 10. Tao is due in Hong Kong next year.

The R&B singer's toned physique, a result of intensive training for the tour, didn't go unnoticed by his fans. 'They kept asking me to take off my clothes, but I didn't do it,' he said.
