'I never even sat across a dinner table from her'

Suspended barrister Roderick Murray yesterday issued a public apology to Judge Chua Fi-lan outside Tsuen Wan Court for having made false disparaging statements against the District Court official.

Murray said outside the District Court in Wan Chai on August 9 last year that he had had sex with Judge Chua on two occasions. Murray's comments came after he had disrupted proceedings in a case presided over by Judge Chua by giggling and playing with his sunglasses, forcing a brief adjournment. He had turned up late following a lunch-time drinking session.

But yesterday Murray indicated he had made the comments in a manner not meant to be taken seriously, saying he never had sexual relations with Judge Chua and wanted to apologise to her publicly.

According to Murray, he knew Judge Chua professionally when she was a lawyer and had a lot of respect for her. His only social contact with her was in July 2002, at a party at Cafe Deco on The Peak.
