Bang, crash, boom

Is there a potential percussionist hiding inside you? If so, then note that you do not need a set of drums and drumsticks to express yourself - just use the kind of everyday objects that Stomp performers use, such as newspapers, plastic bags, brooms and rubbish bins. Some of their other props include pens, rubber bands, spatulas, and even computer keyboards. Under the rules of this rhythmic extravaganza, anything is fair game. While Stomp modifies the 'instruments' used for health and safety reasons, everything that appears on the stage can be bought at a hardware store. Here are some statistics from Stomp productions of the past 14 years. The show has used more than:

5,000 boxes of matches

30,000 brooms

20,000 bins

10,000 drumsticks

25,000 litres of black paint

737 paint rollers

In a period of one week, the cast of Stomp goes through:

30 brooms

Eight rubbish bin lids

One tall rubbish bin (in Britain) or five short bins (in the United States)

10 two-metre poles

7kg of sand

Four blocks of athletes' chalk

12 pairs of drumsticks

200 litres of water

Eight bananas

12 boxes of matches
