Election day: September 25


Number of seats: Increased to 29 from 27 in the last term


Structure: Ten seats are indirectly elected; directly elected seats increased to 12 from 10; seven are appointed by the chief executive


Direct election: Proportional representation system. A total of 127 candidates from 18 tickets contend for 12 seats


Indirect election: Four constituencies, namely:


1) employers; 2) labour; 3) professionals; and 4) charities, culture, education and sports


Campaign expense ceiling: 4,320,357.28 patacas per list of candidates


Registered voters: 220,618. More than 50 per cent are over 45


Voter turnout: 52 per cent in 2001; 64 per cent in 1996
