Property firm seeks director for China

A newly created position of director - chairman's office has recently become available at a Hong Kong-based property company in Shanghai.

The company has a strong strategic focus on property development in China, with a substantial land bank and a comprehensive portfolio of projects in major Chinese cities.

The firm's property development business in China is headquartered in Shanghai and, according to recruitment company Steven Mok and Associates, the company has built a strong reputation as an innovative property developer. The new director will be required to lead the office and report directly to the chairman.

Acting as chief aide to the chairman, the candidate will have a number of core responsibilities that require efficient time-management skills.

Responsibilities include co-ordinating and preparing for various internal and external meetings on a regular basis and undertaking exploratory discussions and preliminary negotiations.

A critical thinker is required, someone with the ability and experience to conduct analysis and make recommendations for action and develop effective solutions for problems when they arise.

Applicants should also be able to follow up on decisions to ensure the effective execution of strategic plans. A minimum of 10 years' professional work experience in law, finance or consulting or in a senior management position at a major corporation is expected.

China experience is a prerequisite, as are excellent language skills in written and spoken Putonghua and English. This senior position requires integrity and professionalism, and candidates should be self-assured and outgoing.

Applicants should demonstrate outstanding team player skills, and have the personality to lead and inspire.

The role requires a person who is skilled in handling relations with multiple parties at middle to senior level, internally and externally. Superior liaison skills are therefore needed.

Political awareness and knowledge of the industry and the market are necessary. It is also vital to keep up with industry trends and be able to use that knowledge to make forecasts that the company could use to maintain its competitive edge.

A systematic, detail-oriented work approach would be appreciated by the company.

Overall, the director should be commercially savvy, and be able to comprehend complex property issues and handle all business-related matters while taking the company to new heights.

The company prefers applicants with a postgraduate degree, but those with an undergraduate degree from a top university will be considered.

Finally, candidates should be prepared to travel frequently in China and internationally.
