coat of alms

Although the trench coat came of age in the mud-soaked trenches of the first world war, this functional yet simple design has evolved into a fashion staple for women. Its existence is due in part to Thomas Burberry, who submitted the design to Britain's War Office in 1901, having created the waterproof fabric used for the coats. Over the years, Burberry creative director Christopher Bailey has reinvented the trench coat in various ways, making it a most-wanted item with the fashion cognoscenti. His latest design, however, has a greater cause behind it. To raise awareness for breast cancer, Bailey has created a limited edition, crumpled pink leather coat, which is modelled by Kate Moss in an advertising campaign shot by famed photographer Mario Testino.

A limited number of pieces will go on sale worldwide, with only 20 available in Hong Kong, from September 1. The coat will cost $14,895, with 30 per cent being donated to various breast cancer charities. To pre-order, contact Burberry, Alexandra House, Central, tel: 2868 3511.
