Ballet fans in Hong Kong are about to get the treat of a lifetime.

The Russian National Ballet Theatre is going to perform the Russian classic The Sleeping Beauty here in October.

Described by The New York Post as a must-see, the show is guaranteed to be amusing and enjoyable.

Adapted from Charles Perrault's classic fairytale, The Sleeping Beauty was choreographed by French choreographer Marius Petipa to the music of Russian composer Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky.

It is one of Tchaikovsky's favourite works and the dance is widely considered as a difficult one.

The performance features many award-winning soloists, a corps de ballet, as well as magnificent scenery and elegant costumes. Filled with complex balances and promenades, it displays the dancers' superb techniques and has received acclaim worldwide.

Led by famous Bolshoi Ballet soloist Vladimir Moiseev, the theatre has performed numerous classics such as Swan Lake and The Nutcracker.

It has also performed modern ballets to music of great musicians such as Mozart and Bach.

The Leisure and Cultural Services Department is presenting the show on October 7, 8 and 9 at the Auditorium of Tsuen Wan Town Hall, Yuen Long Theatre and Sha Tin Town Hall respectively.

Tickets range from $90 to $250 and are available at all Urbtix outlets. Students enjoy a half price discount.
