Drink-driving suspected in truck crash

Morning rush hour traffic in Lung Cheung Road at Wong Tai Sin was disrupted for more than three hours yesterday after a truck hit a concrete divider and spilled its container into the opposite lane.

Police arrested the 50-year-old driver for suspected drink-driving after he was taken to United Christian Hospital for checks.

The accident occurred shortly after 7am, when the driver tried to negotiate a downhill left-hand bend near Lung Cheung Mall.

'The driver lost control and hit the concrete central divider, knocking down two lamp posts and two traffic signs,' a police spokeswoman said.

'After the collision, the container fell onto the westbound lane. A taxi was approaching the scene at the time and managed to take evasive action by cutting into the adjacent lane.'

The truck's trailer was mangled in the accident. The container was lifted off the road by a crane at about 10am, and the traffic flow resumed 90 minutes later.
